#APoemADay Day 13 – Sweeping Leaves
The shortening winter day
Is a chamber of light
I must now cherish -
The autumn leaves refract
The sun's precious rays
Through prisms of gold,
Bronze and copper leaves
Which furl and fall at my feet
As the day empties.
I sweep the muddied
Leaf carcasses away,
Reflecting on the emptying
Of the human heart
Which begets destruction
And wishing humanity
Had lived in fuller
Understanding of life's
Innately beautiful fragility.
Innately beautiful fragility.
Inspired by a Poem Renga with members of creative
collective The Rest Will Follow
