– Day 27 – Sunken Cities
Beneath the water
Cities lay sleeping
For silty centuries
Upon the salty seabed
Drowned deities
Sunk in sycamore
Mysteries encased in
Abandoned barges
Sphinxes curl their tails
Keeping a watery gaze
At the gateways to
Toppled temples
Hippo headed goddesses
And giant bulls preside
Over ocean empty
Stony still streets
Here under the sea
Hieroglyphs swim
With Greek alphabets
Across tablets of stone
Fluid cultural metamorphoses
Generals become pharaohs
Drowned lovers turn gods
And sister queens goddesses
In a titanic outpouring
Of shared inspiration and wisdom
The dreams of two continents
Slipped beneath the waves
Their sleep uninterrupted
Until this modern awakening
Unblinking eyes of seabathed stoneNow gaze upon humanity again
